Queer Fresno

Join Jackki Hirahara, Dr.Elizabeth Swearingen, Jay Matthew, and the California Coalition for Marriage Equality in a historic movement to restore civil equality to all couples on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at Fresno State University.
We are building an active campaign to repeal Proposition 8 next fall. This campaign is being built by people just like you — grassroots organizers and committed citizens. Signature gathering will begin state-wide this November and the campaign will have Steve Hildebrand as an adviser. Considered one of the premier political strategists in the nation, Hildebrand served as Barack Obama’s deputy national campaign manager during the historic 2008 campaign. Hildebrand has been vital in mediating with the President on behalf of many in the LGBT community. Hildebrand is now at the center of the movement to repeal Prop. 8 in 2010, serving as a Senior Political Advisor.

The All-Volunteer 2010 Signature Gathering effort launches locally on September 23rd. Community members are invited to Fresno State University, 5241 N Maple Ave, Fresno in the McLane Hall Room 121, from 6:30pm-7:00pm. Organizers, activists, and other citizens can contribute to this effort and help to elect three representatives to the statewide Campaign Advisory Board. Community members are additionally welcome to self-nominate for one of the three positions. Candidates are encouraged submit their names to Jay Matthew, ErasetheH8@gmail.com

What began more than 40 years ago at the Stonewall Inn in New York lives on today as a vibrant and active LGBT movement. Fresno took to the streets last fall along with hundreds of thousands of Americans after Proposition 8 stripped away basic human rights from LGBT couples. Shortly after we also held Meet in The Middle to show that we were not going to go away. In fact, we were going to come back stronger. Now is that time! Join the movement today to restore civil marriage equality on November 2, 2010.

Dr.Elizabeth Swearingen will speak about her losses during the fight for LGBT rights, and how she will never stop fighting for what is right. Dr. Swearingen comes from a Mormon background, and is the President of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom. Her powerful story is not to be missed and will help everyone present to fully realize why this movement is vital to every one of us in California.
