Leaders but not
Harvey Milk used to call them “un” leaders in his campaign speeches. Leaders but not. Milk was referencing the type of gay leader that was more inclined and interested in serving themselves or their own petty agendas than getting about the work of the community. Harvey recoiled and often rebuked, sometimes very publicly, any community leader that was more interested in stroking their own ego than working for equality for all gays and lesbians. It’s amazing how much things haven’t changed since the 1970’s. Here we are, still struggling for legal protection and freedom from discrimination, and we still have the same problem that Harvey did over three decades ago. I look around and I see plenty of “un” leaders. People who are more concerned with getting their face on T.V. or their name in the paper than working together with other GLBT organizations and leadership for the betterment of all. Harvey Milk called them “un” leaders. Think about that. Leaders but not.
Right?! You fucking said it mike, i find it sad as well.
This is true- not many leaders would be willing to give up everything for the benefit of their people
